Maternity Photo Shooting: When and Why to do it

Your moment has finally come! A moment of cuddles, intimacy and photography to enrich and fully take advantage of your pregnancy. The great day of the Maternity shooting has come, dedicated to all pregnant women, but also to first and second-born children waiting for a little brother or sister, and with them to dads who want to share these precious and unrepeatable moments. The pictures you get from a Maternity service will forever save from oblivion one of the most magical periods in the life of a woman, a couple and a family. The pictures you get from a Maternity service will forever save from oblivion one of the most magical periods in the life of a woman, a couple and a family. The waiting, the hugs, the caresses, the happiness enclosed in a smile…

In this short in-depth analysis, I want to help you understand how such a service works and what to do in order to arrive prepared. First of all, let’s say that the best timing for the shooting doesn’t come at the end of the pregnancy, when generally the mom-to-be feels burdened, but rather towards the seventh month, between 28 and 30 weeks. This is the right moment to immortalize the romantic beauty of the expectant woman. The dad and with him the older siblings have already become aware of the unborn child and participate eagerly to this unique event. The Maternity service will be the ideal opportunity for you to give yourself and them all a precious dose of attention and love, taking advantage of it to collect shots that will become unforgettable memories!

Generally, one of the most commonly asked questions I get is about what to wear. How should I dress up for the photo shoot? Again, don’t worry too much: my studio puts at your disposal a whole collection of handmade Maternity gowns, so you don’t need to go in search of a fitting dress before the session, it’s all part of the service! You just need to wear a careful but light makeup: hands and toes nails must be well-groomed, with a light neutral coloured nail polish, while hair must be washed on the day of the session and styled to match long, romantic clothes.

Dad, on the other hand, should wear a light-coloured shirt, with no noticeable writing on it, or even a simple t-shirt or polo shirt. For children it is advisable to opt for comfort, so besides a couple of changes with light clothes with no writing, it is worth bringing water and some snacks. A drink or a snack during the shooting can change your child’s mood and make him or her feel more comfortable and relaxed.

A Maternity service, unlike a Newborn service, can take place both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, of course, require high-quality artificial lighting, backdrops and additional decorative accessories. Outside, however, it will be necessary to opt for peaceful scenarios, appropriate for the session. My service covers this important part about finding the perfect location, also taking into account travel distances, daylight hours with optimal light as well as any other variables to get exciting and superlative artistic shots.
